Job Specification

The role

We are looking for a Pre-Sales Customer Engineer to join our team working to help customers and prospects better understand Google Cloud technologies, in particular Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As a Pre-Sales Customer Engineer, you will play a key role in the sales process – first helping to qualify opportunities, ensuring technical requirements are gathered and understood correctly and showcasing some of the core platform services effectively. From there you will help to develop the solution that will best meet the customer’s needs. 

 

You will work cross-functionally with sales and delivery to determine the appropriate level of engagement and will support the sales representative in creating the relevant documentation. Developing strong working relationships within both Google and customers/prospects at a technical level is key to assuring opportunities are won and this will be an important part of the role. 

 

Additionally, you will be given the opportunity to present or contribute to whitepapers and “Lunch and Learn” sessions, as well as working closely with the marketing team to provide technical support for events and webinars where required.

  • Work alongside Sales to qualify and progress opportunities at a technical level.
  • Work with delivery and sales teams to determine appropriate engagements and solutions.
  • Make technical contributions to Statements of Work (SOWs).
  • Demonstrating relevant core services and their capabilities where applicable.
  • Establish, develop and maintain positive business and customer relationships, particularly with Google technical personnel (Customer Engineers).
  • Match Google Cloud technologies to customer/prospect requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance at events, conferences and webinars.

Desirable Skills

Required skills:

  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Solution or Enterprise Architect/Cloud IT Consultant with commercial awareness.
  • Excellent understanding of technology and security fundamentals as follows but not limited to: IT operations, core infrastructure, basic networking, IT security, data sharing platforms,, hosted services/SaaS applications, web application architectures.
  • Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of a Public Cloud Platform including but not limited to the Shared Responsibility Model, IaaS/PaaS, Identity and Access Management, cloud connectivity/networking, service consumption and billing models.
  • Experience in scoping, designing or delivering projects in areas such as cloud migration, data analytics, data warehousing and cloud-native application development on a public cloud provider. (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently.
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites for 2-3 days a week

Preferred skills:

  • Experience working in a pre-sales capacity, or alongside sales representatives in a technical role.
  • Previous experience scoping, designing or delivering projects in Google Cloud Platform.
  • Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer, Professional Cloud Architect or other Google Cloud Professional certification.
  • Prior experience in scoping, designing or delivering Hybrid or Multi-Cloud projects.
