The Role

We are looking for someone enthusiastic, driven, and with a keen passion for technology to come and join our organisation as a Google Cloud Platform Data Engineer who is skilled with Data Engineering and Machine Learning.

Although our head office is based in Leeds, this role can be performed remotely, from your home.  It will involve frequent travel around the country and occasionally international travel.

This role will involve engaging in GCP projects/opportunities with the customer right from inception to delivery. The Data Engineer shall be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of data engineering solutions and machine learning solutions. This usually involves working closely with our Customers, and Product Teams at Google, sometimes all the way through to the delivery of the project.

Your role will include working with our engineering and project teams to document, design, develop and deploy solutions that will utilise the Google Cloud Platform stack of technologies. You will be expected to ensure the projects are successful from the information gathering stages, through to development and deployment.

There will be exposure to a wide variety of technologies and software and you will be expected to investigate the use of new technologies as they become available.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with customers to take a project from pre-sales through to delivery
  • Creating Statements of Work to clearly define the scope of projects
  • Conducting technical workshops, health checks and architecture reviews 
  • Working with customers to help them leverage cloud environments to replace and update legacy data centre applications and equipment.
  • Being at the forefront of technology, presenting ideas and solutions internally.
  • Upskilling internal staff members by leading “Lunch and Learn” sessions, and one-on-one support as necessary.
  • Publishing articles and blogs to promote our brand.
  • Engaging in technical discussions with customers, partners and the wider community

Skill Set

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • A background of working with public cloud services; AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform
  • Designing and building complex scalable data engineering solutions on any Cloud service
  • Design and development of ETL/ELT pipelines using either Hadoop Technologies (Spark) or Apache Beam 
  • Data Modelling, Data Governance, and Data Security
  • Programming knowledge either in Java or Python
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL
  • Working knowledge of SQL/NoSQL Databases
  • Strong skills and experience in Cloud Data Warehousing technologies eg. BigQuery/Snowflake
  • Proficient in one of the Data Visualisation Tools eg. Data Studio, Looker or Tableau
  • Fundamental understanding of Machine Learning/AI, and relevant tools/products
  • Working knowledge of data processing, data wrangling, and data analysis techniques
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures, batch/streaming data pipelines
  • Passionate about Data and Analytics
  • Contributing on a technical level to customer-facing technical meetings/workshops
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

It would be advantageous for any candidate to:

  • Have a Cloud Architecture or Data Engineering background
  • Have a genuine passion for learning new technologies
  • Have the Google Cloud Data Engineer, or the Google Cloud Architect certifications
  • Have any other certifications from AWS or Microsoft for their cloud platforms
  • Experience of working with continuous integration, and continuous delivery technologies
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code
  • Strong Linux background
